How vape juice is made

Delicious flavors of e-liquids are one of the most compelling reasons that attract customers to vaping. Let’s find out how vape juice is made and which ingredients are essential elements during that process.

What is in your vape juice?

Most vape juices, particularly those created by famous brands, have their ingredients listed on the package or the label, so you can quickly check what substances are in your favorite products. As you will see, e-liquids usually have just a few key elements – vegetable glycerin (VG), propylene glycol (PG), flavorings, and nicotine. In the first step, the base is created with vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol. Next, flavoring is added to the mixture, and after that comes the last ingredient – nicotine. The whole blend is then shaken, which allows all the components to blend better. Afterward, the vape juice is left for several days, so the flavor can age a little bit and become more vibrant. This process is called ‘steeping’ and should be done by storing vape juices in a cold and dark place. Most big brands prepare their products in ISO8 clean rooms where the air distribution system filters out particulate matter out of the air.

Vegetable glycerin (VG)

Now that we know how to make vape juice, it’s time to learn a little bit more about its key ingredients and their role in the mixture. Vegetable glycerin, also known as glycerol, is usually made from soybeans or palm trees. The liquid is quite viscous and affects both the amount and thickness of the vapor. The higher its level, the more concentrated the clouds.

Propylene glycol (PG)

Propylene glycol is a clear liquid made from petroleum, which has a lighter consistency than VG. In vape juices, it is used for binding the flavoring. As a result, with a higher concentration of PG, you will be able to enjoy a much stronger flavor of the e-liquid.

Flavorings

Flavorings are a fundamental ingredient since they are responsible for all that mouth-watering taste of vape juices on the market. Manufacturers use both natural and artificial essences in concentrated form, which helps them recreate the flavors of chosen foods and drinks. All flavoring is food grade and usually makes up less than 10% of the whole vape juice. Such concentrates are also commonly used in many other processed products such as soda or candy.

Nicotine

Last, but definitely not least ingredient, is nicotine. Not every vape juice contains that substance, but most e-liquids do. It’s important to remember that nicotine does not have carcinogenic properties. However, it’s addictive, which is one of the causes many people have a lot of difficulties quitting smoking. Of course, vape juices can have different strengths of nicotine, which allows the vapers to choose the products most suited to their needs. E-liquids are divided into two categories – freebase nicotine and nicotine salts. The first option has lower levels, and usually, it comes in 0 mg, 3 mg, 6 mg, and 12 mg. Nic salts offer much higher nicotine strengths and can be found in the range between 25 mg and 50 mg.
